Rajasthan is one of the most popular tourist destinations in India. The state witnesses a high inflow of domestic and foreign tourists every year. It's not surprising because it shows India at its most colorful and exotic best. Rajasthan is the state in the West India. It is also known as "the land of kings" and "the land of colors". Here are seven famous places to visit in Rajasthan.

Jaipur
The capital of the state, Jaipur is also the largest city in the princely state of Rajasthan. Also known by the nickname 'Pink City of India' which is due to the distinctive saffron or pink color of the buildings. The planning of the city was done according to the Vedic Vastu Shastra (Indian architecture).

Udaipur
Udaipur is a popular tourist place in Rajasthan and attracts a large number of tourists from all over the world due to its scenic beauty, history, culture and Rajput-era palaces. Often called the Venice of the East, Udaipur has a number of beautiful lakes such as the Lake Pichola, Fateh Sagar Lake, Udai Sagar and Swaroop Sagar.

Jodhpur
Affectionately known as the "Blue City" for its blue painted buildings, Jodhpur is the second largest city in Rajasthan. The walled old part of the city is presided over by the looming Mehrangarh Fort. One of the largest forts in India, it's the pride of Jodhpur.

Jaisalmer
Located on an ancient trade route, Jaisalmer is within a few miles of neighboring Pakistan. Inspite of its remote location, Jaisalmer attracts a fair amount of domestic and foreign tourists. This is one of the best places to go off on a multi-day camel safari into the Thar Desert.

Bikaner
Bikaner is another prime tourist destination and is famous for its sweets and snacks. The place is known for its forts and food. The various arts and crafts of this place are also unique, especially the intricately carved windowpanes called jharokhas. The various fairs held in Bikaner also attract a huge no. of visitors from all around India and the world. The famous temples like Karni Mata and Laxmi Nath Temple etc.

Pushkar
For most of the year, Pushkar is a sleepy little holy town that attracts a lot of backpackers and hippie types. Pushkar really comes alive for a couple of weeks in October/November, when the Pushkar Camel Fair comes to town.

Chittorgarh
The ancient city of Chittorgarh also known as Chittor. One of the major places in Chittorgarh is the Chittorgarh fort, which is the largest fort in India. The fort complex itself contains several palaces, gardens and temples most of which have a great historical significance.
